Ad Watch – CFPA Is Not Consumer Protection
The economy has made it tough on this local butcher’s customers. So he lets some of them run a tab and pay the bill over time to help make ends meet. But now Washington wants to make it even tougher on everyone.
The proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA) Act would create a new government bureaucracy with sweeping authority that goes far beyond consumer protection. Virtually every business that extends credit to American consumers would be affected—even the local butcher and the credit he extends to his customers.
The CFPA would also have the ability to collect information about his customers’ financial accounts and take away many of their financial choices.
